Zinc

Material for Roofing and Cladding

Zinc is one of the most green, ecologically and environmentally friendly building materials and is becoming more popular among architects. For over 200 years zinc has been providing architects around the world with the perfect solution for all their roofing & wall cladding needs.
Composed of 99.995% pure zinc, to which copper and titanium are added, produces a material with optimum mechanical and physical characteristics. Its soft, malleable and flexible construction allows it to meet almost every architectural demand whilst providing superior solutions over other metals. Zinc is an extremely durable and low maintenance material with exceptional longevity and an average life span of 60 to 80 years in a severe marine environment. Its versatility also makes it a firm favourite for contemporary roofs, concaved roofs, soffits, fascias, guttering, downpipes, cappings, tapered sheets and any roof of three degrees or more.

Copper

Material for Roofing and Cladding

Copper has played a role in architecture for thousands of years and is known for its durability. Copper roofs offer corrosion resistance, durability, long life and low maintenance. Copper is a beautiful material with no other metal except gold has a colour, when exposed to the environment its shiny red becomes brown and then progresses to its distinctive green patina.

The benefits of using Copper for roofing and cladding projects are:
» Aesthetically pleasing: Available in a number of surface aspects
» Malleability / Versatility
» Longevity-Proven over centuries of use
» Recyclable / Recycle Value
» Suited to contemporary and traditional designs
» Adds value to a property

Aluminium

Material for Roofing and Cladding

Aluminium is the most common metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up approx. 8% of the crust. Aluminium only occurs naturally in a chemical bond with oxygen (and other elements) and is very hard to separate from that bond. This means it was discovered relatively late. It was first produced by Friedrich Wöhler in 1827 in a laboratory at a vocational school in Berlin.

Aluminium and the Environment

When producing aluminium for roofing and facade cladding, approx. 10% primary aluminium and approx. 90% secondary aluminium is used. This means aluminium is almost 100% recyclable with no significant loss of quality! Given its longevity, lack of maintenance required, excellent recycling capacity and low weight (transport), aluminium achieves an extremely positive eco-balance.

Aluminium Properties

» Melting point: 660°C
» Density: 2.7 kg/dm³
» Tensile strength approx. 100-190 N/mm²
» Excellent heat and electricity conductor
» Excellent heat reflector
» Highly resistant to weathering influences (does not rust)
» Aluminium is non-toxic
» Recyclable

Thanks to its extremely low weight and resistance, aluminium is the ideal material for many high-tech areas of application like plane construction, automotive industry and construction industry
